Avalon
was designed and built to accommodate senior adults who
need assistance with daily activities. We provide a safe,
cheerful environment where residents receive as much assistance
as needed, but are encouraged to be as independent as
possible. We are a "Type B" facility, licensed
by the State, which means that we can accept people who
are in a wheelchair or use a walker. Our building is equipped
with a sprinkler system to provide safety to disabled
residents.
Our
staff recognizes the importance of maintaining dignity,
and always strives to offer aid with compassion and concern.
We select our staff not only for their care giving skills
but also for their positive, caring attitude toward the
residents. All the aides are CNAs and are trained on site
before being assigned to a shift. Our manager is a Certified
Med Aide as well as being certified in records keeping.
She is on site 40 hours per week. In addition we have a
nurse who comes twice a week to see all the residents and
is on call for emergencies. Our doctor is a geriatric specialist
who sees the residents routinely and is on call for consultation
and emergencies. Residents who wish to continue with their
present physician are able to do so.
Basic
services include three nutritious meals daily plus snacks,
laundry and housekeeping services, medication supervision
and assistance with personal care and daily routines as
needed. Care plans are developed for each resident to identify
their specific care needs. We provide 24-hour supervision
with nightly bed checks every two hours. Our staff will
help arrange for other needed services such as Home Health
Care, Podiatry Services, Hairdresser, or transportation.
We are located just minutes from a major medical center
where residents may be taken for emergency care.
Stimulating
social activities are provided, including an exercise
program, daily newspaper, games, walks, etc. In addition
we have groups who come in - church groups, scout troops,
local school groups - to visit and share activities. Special
attention is given to holidays and birthday. Avalon will
assist friends and family in planning celebrations that
are appropriate for residents with special health requirements.
All
our rooms are double. They easily accommodate two beds,
two chairs, dresser, and night stands. There are two closets
and a half bath in each room. There are two large baths,
one with a tub and one with shower, with roll in chair.
All baths are supervised and assisted, if needed. Residents
may bring their own furniture or use Avalon's. Residents
are encouraged to bring personal items, such as pictures,
paintings, lamps, etc. to feel more at home.
Families
and friends are encouraged to visit as often as they wish.
There are no "visiting hours", but visitors
are asked to call if they plan to come at night. We have
a sitting room for visitors who prefer privacy for their
visits.
We
have spacious, well-maintained grounds surrounded by a
six-foot wrought iron fence. There are sidewalks and paths,
which accommodate wheelchairs. Our patio is furnished
with chairs and table for comfortable and pleasant outdoor
activities.
For
those interested in seeing Avalon Personal Care Home,
an appointment is necessary and may be arranged by calling
during regular business hours. Our manager does an evaluation
of a prospective resident and/or nurse before being accepted.
This is necessary to ensure that we will be able to meet
the needs of the resident.
Our
Administration and Staff recognize that making a move
to an assisted living facility is a traumatic experience
for families. It often involves loss of independence,
family role-reversals, feelings of guilt and anger. Knowing
this, we dedicate ourselves to helping make the move as
smooth and pleasant as possible and providing a comfortable,
satisfying lifestyle for the residents in our care.
